The next day Genesis, toting Hollywood in her arms, walked into the
dressing room for the Jay Leno show and immediately spotted a vase
of flowers -- white lilies. Genesis smiled happily as Morgan
commented, "I guess Josh FINALLY remembered."
Genesis ignored the comment as she walked over to the flowers and
pulled open the little card. 'You may have said I couldn't call
you but you never said I couldn't send you flowers. Good Luck,
Alex.' The card read. Genesis's mouth dropped open. "What does
it say?" asked Christine.
"It's not from Josh." Genesis replied, ignoring the question. She
slid the card back into the envelope.
"Your parents?" Morgan guessed.
Genesis shook her head. "Alex." She muttered.
"Who?" Christine and Morgan inquired in unison.
"AJ Mclean." She explained, setting the card down on the table. She
couldn't believe AJ had done this. It was so sweet.
"What?!" Morgan cried and Christine looked at Genesis like she was
insane.
"That's who sent me the flowers."
"Why?"
"Because I told him he couldn't call me."
Morgan snatched the card up from the table and pulled it from the
envelope. She read the card and then flipped it over. "His phone
number is on the back." She pointed out handing the hard to Genesis.
"You should call him."
"To thank him." Christine added quickly.
"Why else?" Genesis responded, looking strangely at her manager.
Christine rolled her eyes as she handed Genesis her cell phone. "Chrissy,
I have never cheated on any of my boyfriends and I don't plan on
starting now."
"Okay." Christine replied, with a nod. "Do you want to be prepped
for the interview?"
"I don't care." Genesis replied with a shrug. She knew that no
matter what she said Christine would have her prepped for the
interview anyway. She hated it too. Christine wordlessly walked out
of the room. "I think she enjoys treating me like a two year old."
Morgan shrugged. "That's just Christine for you." She said. "Do you
like AJ?"
'Yes.' Almost popped out of Genesis's mouth but she stayed
quiet. "I've only known him for like five minutes. It's like
impossible to know if I like him or not." She replied evenly. She
ran her fingers over the edges of the card staring down at what he
had written.
"Oh really?? If I remember you had only known Eminem for twenty
minutes before you agreed to go out with him."
"One guy. Big deal."
"And what about those two guys from that British boy band?"
"Seann and J. What about them?"
"You had only known J for like half a day." Morgan continued. "And
Josh? You two barely got past the introductions before you were
making out. I could go on for DAYS about the guys that you dated and
had only known them for a little while."
Genesis laughed as she dropped down into a chair. "So I can be a bit
impulsive at times. I don't plan on shoving my tongue down Alex-"
she began.
"Who?" Morgan interrupted with a coy little smile on her face. She
knew that Genesis wanted a go at AJ. After being with Genesis for
nearly seven years day in and day out it was stuck out obviously to
Morgan.
"He told me I could call him Alex." Genesis defended, scooping up
Hollywood and pulling her into her lap.
"Oooohhh." Morgan teased, sitting down on the couch. "Now you even
have nicknames? Will you be shopping for China patterns soon?"
Genesis giggled. "Not to my knowledge" she retorted. "I think your
reading into everything way too much."
"I think 'Alex' is courting you."
"I told him I had a boyfriend." Genesis protested. "Do you know what
Christine grabbed for me to wear to night?" Genesis had been unable
to see what Christine had picked out because as usual they were late
and had to rush.
"Gucci jeans and a green tank top thing." Morgan stated with a
shrug.
"You know for someone who's been around fashion so much your
clueless."
"Yup. All of that crap is your job." Morgan responded, watching
Christine stand up. "Where are you going?"
"I'm gonna walk around with Hollywood, Kay?" Genesis told her,
walking towards the door.
Morgan knew from the cell phone in her hand that Genesis was leaving
to go call AJ. "All right. You better be back by eleven or
Christine'll have a heart attack."
~!@#$%^&*&^%$#@!~
AJ lay in his hotel bed, half asleep after some late
night talk show. Each of the guys, equally tired, were all in their
own rooms probably all ready asleep. Then the silence that had
settled around him in the darkened room broken by the sharp ringing
of his cell phone that resided on the night table next to his bed.
He sighed and sat up, glancing at the clock. It read two o'clock.
'If this is Nick or Brian with some stupid prank call I swear to
God...' he thought to himself as he grabbed the phone. As much
as he loved the guys he couldn't wait to go home and be away from
them for a little. Being together has much as they had already was
riding quite low on everyone's nerves. Even Nick and Brian had
started bickering. "Hello?" he grumbled into the phone.
"Hey. Is this Alex?" The voice was heavily coated with a Texas twang
and AJ immediately knew who it was and he smiled.
"The one and only. Genesis?" he responded.
"Yup. I was just calling to thank you for the flowers." She
responded.
AJ's smile got wider. At first he had been unsure
about sending the flowers because both of them were attached to
significant others.
"You really didn't have too..."
"I wanted too. It was no problem." AJ assured her. His gaze
skittered back to the clock. He had to be up at a six the next
morning for a seven hour flight down to Orlando. Sarah -- his
girlfriend -- would be waiting for him. She had gone home two days
before the end of the tour so she could go home and get everything
ready. He didn't want to end his conversation with Genesis though.
"So I heard you were filming a movie down in Florida..." He let his
sentence hang, not wanting to be to pushy or seem to desperate. He
was insinuating for them to get together. Even if they had to do it
as friends. He simply wanted to be around her. She seemed to have
this aura around her that AJ couldn't resist.
"What, are you stalking me now, Mr. Mclean?" Genesis teased,
giggling.
"Well, Ms. Finch you never know." AJ replied, closing his eyes and
picturing her. "Me and the guys were at MTV today and John Norris
told us about it."
"Hmm. Carson's cool, isn't he? I used to hang out with him a lot
when I dated Fred Durst." Genesis responded, sitting down on the
step of a back entrance that opened out into an empty parking lot.
Hollywood was pacing back and forth in front of her owner. She knew
that Christine would kill her if she found out that Genesis was out
here without security, but what Christine didn't know wouldn't hurt
her.
"Yeah. Very down to earth." AJ mumbled. She hadn't caught onto what
he had been insinuating. "How long are you down in Florida?"
"I'm shooting the movie for three months. I asked for a couple
months off and I might stay at my Florida house for a little while,
so I don't really know. Do you live down in Florida?"
"Yeah. Orlando. Maybe we could get together for lunch or something.
I have to tour in Europe until the end of November but after that we
have some time off before we start recording again."
"Alex I have a boyfri-"
"As friends Gen. Totally platonic lunch between friends."
Before she could think she answered, "Sure, but you'll have to call
me when you get done with your tour." She wanted to, badly but she
didn't want to ruin her relationship with Josh. "But we'll see each
other before than anyway."
"Huh?" AJ asked, unable to keep the excitement out of his voice.
"My manager told me that a certain tall, blonde Backstreet Boy
requested that for the Teen People Hollywood's Hottest photo shoot
we have a photo shoot together." Genesis informed him. She didn't
really know that Nick had asked for it but she had a strong
premonition that he did. On the plane to LA, Christine had asked
Genesis if she wanted to do the photo shoot and Genesis had okayed
it. "It's in like two or three weeks isn't it?"
"Three weeks. The first of September." AJ told her. Everyone in the
group had made sure that there was absolutely no way that the photo
shoot would be scheduled during their time off.
"Mmmmkay." Genesis answered, checking her watch seeing that it read
twenty after eleven. She was supposed to be in make up at eleven
ten. 'Great.' she thought, scooping up Hollywood. 'Another
thing to listen to Christine bitch about.' Had Genesis not had
Morgan she probably would have been insane stuck with Christine.
Genesis knew that without Christine, though, that she wouldn't be
where she was today and greatly appreciated Christine. After all
everyone had their flaws. "Listen Alex, I have to go okay? I was
supposed to be in make up ten minutes ago. I'll see you at the photo
shoot. Buh bye." Without waiting for AJ's answer she clicked the
cell phone off and rushed inside of the building.
