CHAPTER FOUR
Three weeks later on September first, a half asleep and grumpy
Genesis trooped into some studio in Los Angeles for the Teen
People's Hollywood's Hottest. She and her little entourage had
literally just gotten off a plane from Tampa, Florida and were an
hour late because of a bad thunderstorms. It was seven o'clock in
the morning and not even Christine appeared to be fully awake. "From
now on we are taking a train." Genesis grumbled to her bodyguard
Rodney Ames. He was walking next to her, with Morgan and Christine
walking in front of them. Hollywood trotted along next to Genesis on
her leash.
Rodney laughed but didn't respond, as they descended on the first
set of the day. This set was simple enough. It consisted of a bed
with thick and plush looking bed with a white comforter and pillows
and a white background. The room was bustling with people who
Genesis had met before but couldn't remember their names. "Looks
like they are teasing you." Rodney joked, his eyes scanning the
room. He pointed towards the bed.
Morgan turned around with a smile on her face. "Looks like you get
to be in the position that every teenybopper wants to be in." she
teased. Genesis rolled her eyes. She was unsure of what Morgan meant
but was in too much of a bad mood to ask what she meant. Her bad
mood wasn't all due to the flight problems. The previous night while
she waited in the VIP lounge at the airport she had called Josh and
they had gotten into a fight. Josh was pissed off that Genesis
couldn't met him in New York for the day while he did press for his
newest movie -- O. Genesis had ended the fight by hanging up on him.
Then she had attempted to fall asleep in the uncomfortable and
smelly chairs of the lounge. Plus she had PMS. The mix of all three
was almost lethal. Today was not going to be a fun day for anyone.
Christine opened her mouth to say something but was interrupted as a
harried forty-something man came up to them. "You're late." he
stated.
'Really dipshit?' Genesis almost shot back. Instead she kept
her mouth shut and let Christine give a much more civil answer. "We
had flight problems." she answered.
"They are waiting for her in make up and wardrobe." the man replied,
glaring at Genesis. Genesis sighed inwardly and ignored the look.
With that he turned on his heel and stalked away.
"You think he could shove the stick up his ass any farther?" Genesis
grumbled as she followed Morgan and Christine back towards the
dressing rooms. They passed several which had names taped up on the
doors. It took her a moment to recognize them but then she realized
they were the Backstreet Boys' names. Up until then she had been so
caught up in her mood that she had forgotten who she was doing the
photo shoot with. 'So THAT was what Morgan meant.' Genesis
thought as she walked into the makeshift make up/wardrobe room.
"Whose the photographer anyways?"
"Michael Jean." Christine answered. Two women looked up at the
group as they arrived. Genesis stifled a groan. She had worked with
him before for a Guess photo shoot. He had hit on her nonstop and
put her in the skimpiest clothes possible. He had been very
unprofessional and the only reason Genesis or Christine refrained
from saying anything to him was because Genesis would have lost her
place with Guess which paid A LOT. Christine gave the two women a
smile and said breezily, "Sorry we're late. Flight problems."
Genesis flopped down into the make-up chair ready to be beautified.
"Oh no. It's okay." said one of the women. "My name is Amelia Mears.
It's nice to meet you." She held her hand out to Genesis and Genesis
forced a smile and obliging took it.
"My pleasure." Genesis responded automatically. Christine had
practically beat that phrase into Genesis's head over the years. She
now said it without even thinking.
The second woman stood up and walked over to a rack of clothing. "My
name is Elizabeth Yoder and I dressed you once before for a Tommy
Hilfiger shoot." she stated with a smile. Genesis wondered how all
of these people could be so perky so earlier in the morning.
"It's nice to see you again." Genesis replied. Another sentence
Christine had programmed into her. "So what are we doing to me
today?"
Elizabeth walked over to a clothing rack loaded down with tons of
clothes. "Michael wanted you and the Boys in black pajamas. The
guys already have all of their stuff on. Here's yours." she
answered. She pulled a black bra and a pair of black panties out.
Genesis's mouth dropped but she didn't complain. She had worn next
to nothing in other shoots but this was a teen girl magazine not
Sports Illustrated. Plus no one cared what the models thought. They
were there to wear the clothes and that's it.
"Okay..." Genesis muttered with a yawn.
"I'm supposed to give you this natural, sleeply 'I-just-woke-up'
look." Amelia responded.
"In other words not a lot of make up and hair?" Genesis guessed, as
Amelia picked up one of the many make up compacts that rested on the
table connected to the wall in front of where Genesis sat.
Amelia nodded as she began to apply some foundation. "Basically."
she responded, with a nod.
"I'm going to find the Backstreet management or whoever is here with
them and apologize, okay Genesis?" Christine announced before
looking at Morgan. "The dog probably needs to be taken outside."
Morgan nodded and picked up Hollywood. Both women walked out of the
room.
"I heard that the Backstreet Boys asked for you specifically."
Elizabeth commented, off handedly while flipping through the rack of
clothing.
"Yeah." Genesis responded, her eyelids suddenly feeling very heavy.
That was part of the reason she and Josh had gotten into a fight. He
tended to be very protective and sometimes even jealous and he had
somehow found out about someone from Backstreet requesting the photo
shoot. Genesis had tried to calm him down and tell him not to worry
but it didn't matter.
"It's been going around that AJ and Nick have crushes on you."
Amelia jumped in, putting on some lip gloss and then moving to
Genesis's hair.
"I heard that too but I have a boyfriend." Genesis replied. She
didn't really feel like talking about it. She really didn't feel
like talking period. She just wanted to find a bed and crawl up in
it. She had wanted to wave her magic celebrity wand last night when
they had had the thunderstorms and had to land in New Mexico last
night and have another flight take off just for her. She could have
done it too but Christine wouldn't let her.
"Mmmhhmm Josh Harnett, right?"
"Yeah."
"You're lucky. He's totally a cutie. I loved Pearl Harbor and I
can't wait to see O."
"Yeah they are both really good movies."
"Your last movie was really good too. It's one of my favorites. I
saw it at the premiere."
"I'm glad you liked it. It was a great cast and director. I had fun
doing it." Genesis stated, wishing she was done. The two women were
doing so much butt kissing that Genesis wouldn't be surprised if
their lips had be surgically removed from her butt. This was one of
the things she hated about being famous. It could come in handy
sometimes though. "So were the Backstreet Boys waiting long?"
"They were here late too." Elizabeth answered. "They muttered
something about traffic and then AJ kept asking if you were here
yet."
Amelia smiled at Genesis in the mirror and said, "You're so lucky.
You are dating one of the hottest men in Hollywood and you have two
Backstreet Boys chasing after you."
Genesis wasn't sure how to respond to that so she simply smiled and
that seemed to satisfy Amelia. "Are they all ready?" she asked.
"Yeah. We finished with them about five minutes after you came in."
Amelia explained, quickly running a brush through Genesis's shiny
and beautiful blonde hair. "You have like the perfect hair."
"Um thanks." Genesis answered. Personally her hair annoyed her. It
was too long. She had wanted to cut it for year but Christine had
nearly had a heart attack when she mentioned it. "I like your hair
too." Amelia stepped away from Genesis and looked at her in the
mirror.
"Thanks. Okay I think your done now. You should probably get
dressed." Amelia answered as Elizabeth stepped forward and handed
Genesis the 'pajamas' and a fluffy white robe. Genesis quickly threw
it all on not even waiting for the women to leave the room. She
didn't really care. Hell basically everyone in the world had seen
her pretty much naked in Sports Illustrated and she had gotten
undressed in front of plenty of people during runway shows. It
didn't matter.
"All right..." Genesis muttered, looking at herself in the mirror.
Then she turned back to the make-up artist and stylist. "Am I okay?"
She grabbed the robe and began to put it on.
"Perfect." Amelia and Elizabeth responded. Genesis caught them
looking longingly at her body and had to resist the urge to roll her
eyes. Everyone wanted to be her but they had no idea what it was
like. Everyone thought she had the perfect life and body. They had
no clue what went into everything. It frustrated her but what could
she do.
"Thanks." Genesis said, closing the robe and tying it. She gave them
a forced smile before turning to leave the room. She would see them
later during the photo shoot for make and hair touch ups.
Then she walked out of the room in search of the dressing room that
read her name. She found it and realized that the name to the right
of her door read AJ Mclean and the name to the left read Nick
Carter. She sighed and pushed open the door to her room to find
another huge bouquet of white lilies. Over the past few weeks she
had been receiving these in her trailer on the set of her new movie
at least once a week. They were all from Alex. The first few times
Genesis had thanked him but now she didn't even bother. She kept
waiting for the story to show up in the tabloids. Josh would love
that. She could see it now 'Backstreet's Bad Boy AJ Mclean sends
flowers to Supermodel/Actress Genesis Finch.' Perfect.
The only reason she didn't tell AJ to stop was because she liked it.
She wouldn't admit it though. Josh had stopped sending flowers quite
a long time ago and Genesis missed it. "Gen?" Morgan asked walking
into the room behind Genesis with Hollywood. It made Genesis jump.
For a moment she had thought it was Alex. Morgan shut the door and
caught sight of the flowers. "Again?"
Genesis nodded and walked over to the flowers and plucked the card
out. Morgan was the only person who Genesis had told. Rodney
probably knew though. Genesis dreaded Christine finding out.
Christine would most likely hit the roof and demand that Genesis
tell Alex to stop. Christine knew the media would find out and blow
the story out of proportion. It would totally blow Genesis's
'sweet-girl-next-door-but-sexy' cover if people thought she was
cheating on her boyfriend. "Do they want me yet?" she asked, opening
the card. This time it simply read Alex.
"In a couple minutes." Morgan answered.
"Okay. Do you know why Christine didn't tell me I was working with
Micheal Jean?"
"Well first of all she knows you don't like him and she didn't want
you to back out of it. Second he wasn't supposed to be the original
photographer. The first one had to back out for some reason. Don't
worry though Gen. He won't try anything." Morgan assured Genesis
patting her on the back. "Plus if he tries anything AJ may beat the
shit out of him."
Genesis forced a giggle as she dropped the card in the trash and
left the flowers untouched on the table they were placed on.
"Funny." she muttered, picking up Hollywood and taking the leash
from Morgan. Then she looked down at Morgan innocently. "So while
I'm doing this whole photo shoot should I put a good word in for you
with Nick?"
Morgan's mouth dropped. "Don't you dare Genesis!" she cried.
"Why not?"
"He would never date me!"
"Why not? Your pretty, your funny, your smart, your sweet."
"I'm not his type."
"Oh and how do you know?"
"Because he likes you."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
Morgan rolled her eyes. "I don't have time to date him either." she
muttered ignoring the question. She hadn't meant to say that.
It had just popped out. She hadn't meant it meanly. It was just that
Genesis looking like the perfect blonde bimbo and if Nick liked her,
he certainly wouldn't like Morgan. Genesis wasn't a bimbo though.
She was exceptionally smart, even though she always got the dumb
blonde label.
"Excuses, excuses." Genesis kidded. By the end of the day Nick
Carter would no longer be eyeballing her. He would be eyeballing
Morgan.
